Top 50 Pharma Companies
Each year I look forward to the PharmExec report on the world’s Top 50 Pharma companies. I always have my own thoughts on who has done well. Now the dust has settled I thought I would share my own thoughts with you over the movers and shakers.
No surprise to see that Pfizer are still in #1 spot with global sales of $45.1billion. (down 1.5% on the previous year) What I find particularly interesting though is that the big 3 of Pfizer, GSK and Sanofi-Aventis took a hit on sales however further down the table we have some very strong double digit growth from the likes of Roche (up 20.3%), Bayer (up 51.9% - well done but most of that has come from the merger with Schering), Genentech (up 23.6%) and Teva (up 20.3% - surely a sign of the growth in the generics sector)
My own personal well done though has to go to Novo Nordisk who have barged their way into the Top 20 with growth of 19.6% and sales of $6.85billion. Looking at pipelines I like the look of Liraglutide which based on early result in their Phase III studies looks like it will provide a strong revenue stream.
Overall despite the weakened US$ distorting figures slightly I think we can all look back at 2007 as a pretty decent year for the industry.
